The BMRG team got into the spirit of the 2026 Threatened Species Bake Off this week, creating an impressive collection of edible tributes to some of Australia’s threatened wildlife.
An honourable mention goes to Ben Hoekstra’s Nangur spiny skink (Nangura spinosa) creation, which was reportedly just as delicious as it was eye-catching! Listed as critically endangered, this remarkable species is found only in a small area near Gympie within the Burnett Mary region, making it a particularly fitting choice.
Now celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Threatened Species Bake Off uses creativity—and plenty of icing—to shine a light on Australia’s unique threatened plants and animals and the importance of protecting them.
