Revegetation Commences at Burnett S2 – Restoring Country, Together

Newsroom 1 min read , December 10, 2025

New life is taking root at the Burnett S2 site, where revegetation has officially begun along this important stretch of the Burnett River. The once bare and steep riverbanks are being transformed through the planting of native trees and shrubs, creating a thriving habitat for wildlife, improving water quality, and helping to stabilise the landscape for future generations. This work is part of a federally funded Landscape Repair Project (LRP), supporting large-scale restoration and long-term resilience across the region.

At the heart of this work are the Taribelang Bunda, proud Traditional Owners of the Bundaberg region. Working on their ancestral land, the Taraibelang Bunda Rangers are helping to restore a place that holds deep cultural and environmental significance. Their hands are not only planting trees—they’re planting stories, memories, and connections that run deep through this land.

This collaboration is about more than environmental restoration. It’s about healing Country and people together. Through this project, the Taribelang Bunda Ranger team are sharing cultural knowledge, caring for sacred landscapes, and building skills in natural resource management—strengthening community and cultural pride along the way.

As the first seedlings take hold, they represent hope, a living reminder of what’s possible when we work together to care for Country, honour culture, and protect the Burnett River system for generations to come.

The Landscape Repair Program is funded by the Australian Government's Reef Trust.
