Join Us Next Week for Roots of Resilience: Growing Soil Health

1 min read , May 7, 2026

As drought pressure and climate variability continue to challenge regional landscapes, healthy soils are more important than ever. Next Tuesday, 13 May, BMRG is bringing together landholders, scientists, and regional partners for a practical, hands-on field day focused on building resilient soils and stronger farming systems.

This interactive field day will explore how improving soil function can strengthen productivity, drought preparedness, and long-term landscape sustainability across the Burnett Mary region.

Participants will hear from BMRG Soil Microbiologist Rachel Cavallo and Regional Soil Coordinator Cameron Leckie, alongside host producers Gary, Lynette, and Kurt Muller, who will share on-ground insights and practical experiences from their property.

The day will include:

  • Soil biology and the foundations of soil health
  • Biological approaches and soil treatments to improve soil function
  • A hands-on soil pit demonstration
  • Tow and fert demonstration
  • Practical discussion and Q&A for landholders wanting to better understand their soils

This is a valuable opportunity for anyone interested in improving soil health outcomes on-farm - from experienced producers to those just beginning their soil health journey. With seasonal conditions continuing to test resilience across the region, now is the time to invest in knowledge and practices that support healthier, more productive landscapes for the future.

Places are limited and the event is happening next week - landholders are encouraged to register now to secure their spot.
