Cool Burn Fire Demonstration to Support Resilient Grazing Landscapes

Newsroom 1 min read , June 17, 2026

Landholders across the Burnett Mary region are invited to take part in a practical Cool Burn Fire Demonstration and Workshop designed to build confidence in fire management, reduce bushfire risk, and support healthier grazing landscapes.

This hands-on workshop will explore how cool burning can be used as a valuable land management tool to protect agricultural country, manage fuel loads, and strengthen ecosystem resilience.

The event will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 8:30am to 12:00pm at “Holloway”, 349 Powers Road, Monto, hosted by Gary, Lynette and Kurt Muller.

Participants will learn from an experienced practitioner in a real-world setting, with the day covering safe cool burning planning and techniques, key factors influencing fire management decisions, seasonal conditions, fuel loads, and fire behaviour during a live demonstration.

BMRG Ecosystem Resilience recognises the importance of practical, place-based knowledge in supporting landholders to make informed decisions for their properties and the broader landscape. By working alongside local graziers, community partners and industry specialists, the workshop aims to strengthen land management outcomes that benefit both production and the environment.

The workshop is complimentary and includes a meal for all attendees. As the event will be hosted outdoors in a paddock setting, participants are encouraged to wear suitable clothing, boots and a hat, and to bring a water bottle and chair.

This field day is made possible through The Empowering Adaptive Graziers in the Burnett Mary, delivered by the Burnett Mary Regional Group, as part of the $6 million Grazing Practice Change Program funded through the Queensland Government’s Queensland Reef Water Quality Program.
