Newsroom 1 min read , March 11, 2026

Provide your response and complete the survey - extension to Friday 20th March 2026

Feral pigs continue to place significant pressure on Queensland’s landscapes, waterways and primary industries. Across the Burnett Mary region, their impacts are seen in crop and pasture losses, soil disturbance, declining water quality, and damage to culturally significant sites.

The Queensland Government is seeking feedback on the Draft QLD Feral Pig Management Action Plan 2026–2031. You have until Friday 20th March 2026, 5 pm to respond and complete the survey.

BMRG encourages all to take part in the online survey as well as the opportunity to provide a direct response with a written submission to the draft plan. For more details, view the Draft QLD Feral Pig Action Plan here.

Why your input matters

The draft Action Plan sets a statewide framework for coordinated, long-term feral pig management. It aligns with the National Feral Pig Action Plan while recognising that effective control must be informed by local knowledge, regional conditions and on-ground experience.

For the Burnett Mary region, feral pig management is not only about reducing numbers — it is about delivering measurable outcomes, including:

  • Protecting agricultural productivity
  • Safeguarding waterways and reef catchments
  • Strengthening regional biosecurity resilience
  • Supporting culturally respectful land stewardship

Local insight is essential to ensuring the final plan is practical, targeted and capable of delivering real results. Your experience - including what works, what doesn’t, and where support is most needed - will help guide future investment, coordination and policy direction.

A collaborative, community-led approach

At BMRG, we know that lasting outcomes are achieved through partnership. Effective pest management relies on coordinated action across landholders, Traditional Owners, industry, research organisations and government agencies.

This consultation provides an opportunity to ensure the final Plan reflects:

  • The scale and cost of feral pig impacts in our region
  • The need for coordinated, cross-tenure management
  • The value of integrating Traditional Ecological Knowledge with contemporary control methods
  • Strategic investment that delivers measurable environmental, cultural and economic benefits

By contributing your perspective, you help shape a management approach that is grounded in real-world conditions and supports resilient landscapes across Queensland.

Provide your feedback

Please complete the survey and share it with neighbours, community groups and anyone affected by feral pigs across the region.
