This October, Internationally acclaimed soil educator Joel Williams is coming to the Burnett Mary, joined by Downunder Ag's Grant Sims. Don't miss this exciting opportunity to join BMRG, our hosts, Holroyd and Rhodes Farm, and Joel and Grant as we delve deep into soil function.
Unearthing Soil Function – The Natural Capital Beneath Your Feet will have two complimentary field days where they will share practical strategies to help producers improve soil function, build natural capital and strengthen the resilience of their farming enterprises. Guaranteed to be a day of learning, inspiration, asking questions and in-depth discussions, you will discover invaluable insight into soils and the key role they play in a functioning landscape, leading to more profitable and productive farming and grazing operations.
Held across two demonstration properties, the events combine practical paddock learning with real-world examples of how healthy soils can improve both environmental and production outcomes. Participants will hear from host producers about their journey towards improving soil function and enhancing the natural capital on their properties before gathering around live soil pits to explore soil layers, biology and the processes that drive healthy, productive landscapes.
Throughout the day, Joel Williams will unpack the critical relationship between plant nutrition, soil microbiology and productive farming systems, while Grant Sims will demonstrate how multi-species pastures, cover crops and biological applications can be used to optimise soil function, improve weight gains and increase farm resilience. Participants will also gain a better understanding of soil carbon sequestration and how different soil types influence carbon storage potential.
