BMRG welcomes Reef investment supporting farmer-led action in the Inland Burnett

1 min read , July 2, 2026

BMRG welcomes the Queensland Government’s announcement of record investment to protect the Great Barrier Reef, including support for projects that reduce sediment and nutrient run-off in priority catchments.

Following this announcement, BMRG is introducing the Inland Burnett Integrated Project, a place-based initiative designed to support farmers and landholders to explore sustainable land management, natural capital, and environmental market opportunities in practical, farm-relevant ways.

The project is built around a farmer-first, bottom-up approach, using real-world demonstration farm case studies to show what environmental market participation can look like on the ground. By sharing learnings from pioneering farmers, the project aims to make emerging natural capital opportunities clearer and more accessible for landholders across the Inland Burnett.

Through field days, workshops and natural capital action planning, the project will support landholders to identify opportunities that improve farm resilience, land condition and water quality outcomes. The project will engage landholders through workshops, field days and more in depth natural capital action planning on their select properties.

The Inland Burnett Integrated Project also brings together technical and delivery partners, including Accounting for Nature, KPMG, Alluvium and RCS Australia, to help build regional capacity and demonstrate pathways into environmental markets.

BMRG looks forward to sharing more stories from demonstration farms and upcoming opportunities for landholders to get involved.
