From Forecast to Farm: Planning with Confidence Across the Burnett Mary

Newsroom 1 min read , February 26, 2026

From dry spells to downpours, the Burnett Mary's landscapes have it all - it's a daily management reality for producers across our region. At BMRG, we’re focused on equipping landholders with the systems, skills and confidence to respond to all climates.

Through the Northern Australia Climate Program (NACP), red meat producers in the Burnett Mary are gaining access to the latest research, practical tools and seasonal insights to strengthen on-farm decision-making. These workshops are designed to translate forecasts into clear, locally relevant action — supporting resilient enterprises and healthy landscapes.

Turning Climate Data into Practical Decisions

Each workshop explores the key climate influences shaping our region and what they mean locally. Participants will learn:

  • Where to access reliable weather and climate information
  • How to interpret forecasts and seasonal outlooks for on-property decisions
  • Practical planning for the next three months
  • Strategies to manage livestock heat and cold stress
  • Tools including green date calculations to optimise productivity

These sessions are hands-on and interactive, ensuring producers can apply insights directly to their own operations. By strengthening climate literacy at the property scale, we’re building adaptive capacity across the broader landscape.

Powered by Partnerships

This initiative reflects the strength of collaboration across research, industry and community. Guest speakers from the University of Southern Queensland and Climate Mate teams bring deep technical expertise grounded in practical application.

Measurable Impact for a Resilient Future

Improved seasonal planning and risk management doesn’t just support individual enterprises — it contributes to regional environmental outcomes. More informed grazing management can reduce groundcover loss, improve soil stability and protect waterways from sediment runoff, strengthening the natural capital that underpins our economy.

By investing in climate capability today, we are shaping a future where agriculture, environment and community thrive together.
