Celebrating Community and the Mary River

Newsroom 1 min read , July 16, 2026

BMRG supported the annual Mary River Festival held at Kandanga last Saturday. The team enjoyed engaging with landholders and locals in conversations about the kind of work BMRG are delivering across the region.

The festival had a really positive feeling of connection, with everyone gathering in the same space to show gratitude for the river, deeply caring about ways we can work together on a community level to help repair it. It was an opportunity for BMRG to go into more detail about many different projects, past and present, being completed to restore the banks of the Mary River and habitat for threatened species.

Highlights included the venomous snake show, the cats claw weaving station and of course Mr Fox was a hit again, especially with the kelpies trained to keep foxes away from their chooks.

Congratulations to the organisers on a fantastic local event, we look forward to being involved again next year.
